The Keystone State’s gaming business generated over half a billion dollars in income in the fourth month of the year, but it was slightly less than the record set the previous month.
Pennsylvania’s gambling sector once again surpassed the half-billion dollar mark in April, reaching $504.6 million (€464.8 million / £398.1 million), a 5.9% increase compared to the same month in 2023.
While April’s earnings were lower than the $554.6 million recorded in March 2024, the two figures are very close on a daily basis considering that March had one more day.
The largest segment of Pennsylvania’s gambling industry, retail slots, experienced a decline in revenue, reaching $205.4 million, a 3.5% decrease from April 2023. In April 2024, there were 24,890 slots, compared to 25,555 in April 2023. The state’s most popular venue, Parx Casino, saw a 4.9% decline in revenue, reaching $31.6 million.
Online slots revenue, the second largest segment of Pennsylvania’s gambling industry, reached $126 million, an increase of 31.8%.
Online poker tables and sports wagering both saw double-digit growth, with the former increasing by 15.8% to $45 million.
Sports betting revenue increased by 14.5% to $42.4 million, after two consecutive months of year-over-year decreases. The total sports betting handle was $646 million, a 12.9% increase year-over-year.
The Valley Casino Resort in Virginia has teamed up with FanDuel to become the state’s biggest sports wagering operation, generating $25.4 million in income. This is almost triple the revenue of the second-largest betting operation, FanDuel at Hollywood Casino.
