SiGMA Americas Conference: A Watershed Moment for Brazilian Gaming and Beyond

The SiGMA Americas Conference witnessed a pivotal gathering of sector leaders and Brazilian regulators. Eman Pulis, the visionary behind SiGMA Group, convened with Plinio Lemos Jorge, at the helm of the National Association of Gaming Operators (ANJL), alongside prominent figures from Brazil’s União Brasil political group. This faction plays a significant role in molding the trajectory of gaming within Brazil. The assembly encompassed national chairman Antonio Eduardo Gonçalves de Rueda, counsel Mariana Monteiro Fernandes de Carvalho, party chief Manuel Arruda, and Vinícius Moraes De Carvalho, an investment associate at Ikigai Ventures.

Pulis underscored the importance of engaging with Brazil’s gaming officials, remarking, “This presented a critical chance to convey SiGMA’s perspective to some of the most impactful stakeholders in Brazilian gaming and oversight. A year and a half ago, we embarked on making SiGMA Americas a watershed event, a catalyst in this swiftly developing market. Our objective transcends merely organizing a conference; we aspire to uplift the sector and champion ethical online gaming.” He continued, “I possess immense optimism for the future, not solely for the Americas, but particularly for Brazil and São Paulo.”

Jorge, conversing with SiGMA News, conveyed his appreciation, “Representing ANJL, I extend gratitude to SiGMA Group and Mr. Pulis for their generosity during BiS SiGMA Americas. Our dialogues regarding the sports wagering and internet gaming panorama were especially opportune as Brazil refines its regulatory structure for this industry.”

The event’s magnitude deeply resonated with me and my companions. It undeniably illustrates our nation as a marketplace overflowing with possibilities.”

Mr. Pulis graciously offered invitations to upcoming SiGMA conferences, encompassing those held globally. This undoubtedly unlocks avenues for us to persistently exhibit Brazil’s burgeoning iGaming sector to influential figures worldwide.

Speaking of influential figures, it’s worth noting the recent leadership transition at ANJL. A few weeks ago, the esteemed legal expert and former magistrate, Lemes Jorge, took on the role of President, succeeding the departing Wesley Cardia, who completed an impactful twelve-month tenure. Mr. Jorge brings a multifaceted skillset to this position, prioritizing attentive listening, teamwork, and openness – a clear indication of his dedication to effectively advocating for and protecting the interests of ANJL constituents.

For those less acquainted with his remarkable history, Mr. Jorge is a distinguished legal practitioner and partner at Lemos Jorge Advogados Associados. His qualifications encompass a postgraduate degree in Taxation Law from the esteemed Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, and he is presently pursuing a Doctorate in Business Law. Further enriching his extensive experience, he also held the position of Judge at the Tax and Duties Tribunal of the State of São Paulo.

Lastly, a brief observation on Brazil’s political arena. The União Brasil party, a center-right political entity, arose in 2021 from the amalgamation of the Democrats (DEM) and the Social Liberal Party (PSL). This unification established the largest political faction in Brazil, a noteworthy event formally endorsed by the Superior Electoral Court on February 8, 2022.
