Australian internet providers (ISPs) have received directives to restrict four additional questionable gaming platforms. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has identified Bao Casino, Pokie Place, Reels of Joy, and Ozwin Casino as violators. It appears these platforms were overly eager to accept wagers from Australians without adhering to the guidelines established by the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act.
This is not the ACMA’s first enforcement action. Since initiating a crackdown on these dubious enterprises in November 2019, they have successfully shut down a significant number of illicit gambling websites, totaling 263. The message seems to be spreading. Following the implementation of stricter regulations in 2017, more than 130 unlawful operators have ceased operations and exited the Australian market.
However, website blocking is only one tool in the ACMA’s toolbox. They are also leveraging these blocks as an opportunity to inform the public about the dangers associated with engaging with unregulated gambling platforms. Therefore, if you are ever enticed to test your luck on a platform that appears too good to be true, you may encounter a cautionary message from the ACMA. Consider yourself forewarned!
