SiGMA Europe 2023 A Resounding Success in Malta

The 2023 SiGMA Europe conference, hosted in Malta over seven days, proved to be a truly remarkable experience. Shattering projections, the gathering attracted a throng of over 25,000 participants who engaged in high-level connections, insightful presentations, captivating group dialogues, and undeniable industry influence.

The summit’s new location, the striking Mediterranean Maritime Hall (MMH), offered a breathtaking setting for the occasion. Boasting two stages, a spacious outdoor plaza for refreshments, and more display area than previous years, the MMH demonstrated its suitability perfectly.

SiGMA Group curated a varied and powerful assembly, encompassing crucial decision-makers and industry titans like Darryl Manning, Chief Executive of Wicked Games; Alexandre Tomic, originator and CEO of Alea; seasoned entrepreneur David Meltzer; and Uri Poliavich, Chief Executive of Soft2Bet, among numerous others.

The event also incorporated the AIBC Summit, drawing a substantial contingent of specialists and thought pioneers from the burgeoning tech sector, including Sara Al Madani, Tony Ventura, and Vinícius M. de Carvalho, Investment Partner at Ikigai Ventures.

The quality of presenters throughout Malta Week was truly exceptional, with frontrunners in their respective domains imparting valuable perspectives and knowledge. He stressed Malta’s status as an international center for interactive entertainment and recognized SiGMA’s substantial input to the country’s financial landscape. He reiterated the administration’s pledge to ongoing support for the sector, encompassing a national competitive gaming strategy and programs to cultivate expansion in education and digital play.

Silvio Schembri, Minister for Economic Affairs, European Union Funding, and Land Management, alongside Bernard Grech, Head of the Opposition, were also present, underscoring the event’s importance.

**Investor Showcase**

This years Malta Week witnessed 8BIT Gaming emerge victorious in the eagerly awaited SiGMA Startup Pitch contest. Their fusion of excellence, ingenuity, and a dash of sentimentality struck a chord with the panel, earning them the accolade of “Best in Show” on the SiGMA platform.

The AIBC Europe Startup Pitch competition was equally intense, with SharkGate ultimately seizing the win. Their response? “Our aim is to create a more secure online environment for all. Our mission is to transform the industry’s approach to security.”

Simultaneously, the vibrancy of SiGMA extended to the electrifying ambiance of the Centurion FC 16: “Mursa” fight night. Orchestrated by the celebrated Roberto Gallo, this MMA spectacle provided SiGMA participants with a prime occasion to observe elite combat sports.

The evening showcased a dual main event. Initially, Rafael Carvalho prevailed over Marcelo Alfaia to claim the light heavyweight championship title. Subsequently, a captivating four-man tournament culminated in Philip Douglas securing two triumphs and the coveted “King of Malta” designation within the Takalik Bay Arena.

In addition to the numerous networking opportunities at meals and social gatherings, SiGMA participants were treated to a range of entertainment choices. HighRoller.com organized an exciting charitable poker competition with rewards offered for eliminating designated individuals and guests.

For those with a more sporty inclination, a five-a-side soccer tournament for the SiGMA Cup took place at the Luxol Sports Club, alongside an energetic 6km fun run from the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Valletta to Malta’s ancient capital city.

SiGMA Play also backed a VIP golf competition at the Royal Malta Golf Club, providing a more laid-back yet equally captivating experience.

Lastly, to complete the experience, attendees were introduced to the charm of Malta’s enchanting capital, a UNESCO World Heritage site, through excursions by land and sea.
