Allwyn Posts Strong Q2 Results and Acquires Betano Parent Company Kaizen Gaming

A prominent lottery corporation, Allwyn, unveiled noteworthy financial figures for the second quarter of 2022, exhibiting a substantial 23% rise in gross gaming revenue (GGR) compared to the previous year, reaching €901.7 million (roughly $895.5 million). This expansion was driven by a blend of inherent growth and the complete resurgence of physical sales outlets in crucial regions.

The firm’s net gaming revenue (NGR) similarly witnessed a considerable upswing of 24%, hitting €550.9 million. Furthermore, Allwyn’s modified EBITDA climbed by 17% to €277.1 million, although the adjusted EBITDA margin experienced a minor contraction of 3 percentage points, settling at 50%.

Allwyn’s digital footprint continues to solidify, especially in the Czech Republic, where online platforms now represent 44% of overall GGR, a rise from 38% during the corresponding period last year.

The organization remains dedicated to its enlargement plan, actively seeking acquisitions and engaging in bidding processes. This encompasses ongoing efforts to assume the role of the UK National Lottery operator, subsequent to the Gambling Commission’s endorsement of Allwyn as the favored candidate for the fourth license.

Robert Chvatal, Chief Executive Officer of Allwyn, conveyed his contentment with the company’s achievements, remarking, “It brings me pleasure to announce that Allwyn has produced yet another series of robust financial outcomes in the second quarter of 2022 and maintains positive momentum on pivotal strategic endeavors across both our organic and inorganic growth approaches.”

He further emphasized a noteworthy advancement in their inorganic growth approach, stating, “We have reached an agreement with OPAP to secure a 36.75% interest in Kaizen Gaming, currently held by OPAP.”

Allwyn is acquiring Kaizen Gaming, the firm behind the well-known Betano brand. This noteworthy agreement unites two giants in the realm of online sports wagering and gaming entertainment.

Kaizen, recognized for its robust presence in regions like Romania and Portugal, along with its remarkable expansion in Brazil, was established by the same group that created Stoiximan, another thriving gaming platform. They are renowned for crafting their proprietary gaming technology, providing them with a distinct advantage. Allwyn’s CEO, Robert Chvatal, clearly acknowledges their accomplishments, expressing significant optimism for Betano’s trajectory.

Anticipated to conclude later this year, contingent on regulatory clearances, this acquisition represents a substantial stride for Allwyn, a company experiencing its own impressive growth. They recently announced robust financial outcomes, with revenue and earnings considerably exceeding the previous year. This acquisition will further cement their standing within the global gaming market.

Intriguingly, this development follows a report from Camelot, the former holder of the UK National Lottery license. Despite a minor decrease in lottery ticket purchases, they still managed to generate a record-breaking sum for charitable endeavors. This underscores the overall strength and adaptability of the gaming sector, particularly amidst these demanding economic conditions.
