American Gaming Systems (AGS) is celebrating a recent US Supreme Court judgment that permits bingo on tribal territories in Texas.
The highest court’s Wednesday decision confirms that two indigenous groups in the Lone Star State, the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo and the Alabama and Coushatta Indian Tribe, possess the autonomy to govern themselves and provide gaming activities not forbidden within their reservation boundaries.
Essentially, Texas lacks the authority to impose state regulations concerning particular forms of gaming, including electronic bingo, on these two tribes.
Texas maintains some of the most stringent gambling laws nationwide, despite bingo’s legality. The tribes asserted, contrary to Texas’s stance, that their actions adhered to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA).
The Supreme Court ultimately ruled in favor of the tribes, a result commended by AGS. CEO David Lopez lauded the decision as a triumph for tribal self-determination.
“Following a protracted legal battle, I extend my congratulations to our Native American business associates and allies on this well-earned win,” remarked Lopez.
“This judgment empowers these sovereign tribes to pursue financial independence and upholds their status as federally recognized entities.”
AGS focuses on the production and development of various products for land-based casino operators, encompassing services tailored for tribal gaming entities.
Lopez stated, “The AGS supports our indigenous allies as they protect their rights. We extend our best wishes to these self-governing nations in Texas for success in their current and upcoming endeavors.
“We are honored to stand with all our Native partners throughout the country, particularly these tribes who have struggled tirelessly for their financial independence.”
