Allwyn Posts Strong 2023 Results Driven by Camelot Acquisition

Allwyn witnessed a substantial revenue surge in the fiscal year 2023, achieving a remarkable 98% increase compared to the preceding year. Notably, even excluding their latest acquisition, their revenue demonstrated a commendable 6% rise.

This impressive growth was primarily propelled by Allwyn’s strategic takeover of Camelot UK, the entity responsible for operating the UK National Lottery, in March. This move proved transformative, considerably augmenting Allwyn’s total revenue despite a minor downturn in the UK market.

Throughout the entirety of the 2023 fiscal year, Allwyn recorded an astounding €7.88 billion (equivalent to roughly $8.53 billion) in revenue. Their adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) reached €1.48 billion, while their net income experienced a significant 42% surge to €3.59 billion, contrasting with €2.53 billion the previous year. This exceptional performance was driven by a 98% increase in gross gaming revenue (GGR), reaching €7.55 billion compared to €3.81 billion the year prior.

Remarkably, even without accounting for the revenue generated by the acquired Camelot UK, Allwyn’s inherent growth remained significant. Their core operations witnessed a 6% year-over-year revenue growth, and their adjusted EBITDA, excluding the acquisition, expanded by 12%.

Allwyn’s acquisition of Camelot UK undoubtedly emerged as the most impactful event of their 2023 fiscal year. Following the UK Gambling Commission’s approval in January, the transaction was finalized in March, with Allwyn assuming control from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board. Camelot UK, as the operator of the UK National Lottery, reported £8.19 billion (approximately $10.34 billion) in revenue for the 2022/23 fiscal year, reflecting a 1% year-on-year growth.

Beyond the acquisition, Allwyn persisted in broadening and refining its operations throughout 2023. This encompassed the rebranding of Camelot Illinois to Allwyn North America, signifying their aspirations within the North American market.

## Allwyn Thrives in 2023 Despite UK Market Contraction

Allwyn, an international lottery corporation, sustained its expansion throughout 2023, debuting in emerging territories such as Austria and Greece. This development was propelled by strategic alliances, including their UK lottery partnership with Vodafone and an agreement with Switzerland’s 0xCollection.

These endeavors yielded remarkable year-end results, reflecting the upward trajectory observed in Q3. Allwyn’s overall revenue and gross gaming revenue (GGR) both witnessed a substantial 98% increase. However, it’s important to acknowledge that net earnings contracted by 1% when excluding mergers.

The UK market presented a contrasting narrative. Although remaining a considerable segment of the enterprise, total revenue and GGR in the UK reached €3.93 billion, marginally below half of the combined sum. This signifies a 4% year-over-year decrease. Likewise, both net earnings and operational EBITDA encountered respective reductions of 2% and 5%. Q4 exhibited a comparable trend with GGR declining 2% to €975.3 million and net earnings down 5% to €199.5 million.

Notwithstanding the UK downturn, Q4 2023 presented a favorable outlook overall. Consolidated revenue surged by 97% (4% excluding mergers) reaching €2.18 billion. GGR mirrored this expansion, also attaining €2.08 billion. Adjusted EBITDA enjoyed a 30% rise (15% excluding mergers), amounting to €388.5 million for the quarter.

Reviewing the year, Allwyn CEO Robert Chvatal remarked, “2023 represented another period of robust financial and operational achievements, accompanied by significant strategic advancements… This is evident in our reported figures, which, encompassing the acquisition of Camelot in Q1, yielded 98% growth in total revenue year-on-year.”

He further highlighted the inherent growth, stating, “Excluding mergers, our total revenue expanded by 6% year-on-year…”

A sincere expression of gratitude to all of my fellow team members! Your commitment and tireless efforts have formed the bedrock of our organization’s extraordinary accomplishments throughout this year.
