888 and Rank Withdraw Bid for William Hill

888 Holdings and the Rank Group have ceased their pursuit of William Hill, affirming that they will not present a formal bid to acquire the bookmaking company. The two entities had earlier suggested a tripartite amalgamation, but this has now been retracted.

Both 888 and Rank tendered separate, non-obligatory propositions to the William Hill board on August 8th and 14th, respectively, but both were declined.

Although 888 and Rank, in a collaborative announcement, restated their confidence in the advantages of the fusion proposal, which they claimed would have “engendered a transformative prospect in the worldwide online wagering and gaming sector,” they stated they had opted not to advance further due to an “incapacity to engage meaningfully with the William Hill board.”

888 Chief Executive Itai Frieberger conveyed his dismay that the William Hill board was incapable of perceiving their vision for the unified enterprise.

He appended: “We persist in believing that the amalgamation of these three highly complementary enterprises would have established a captivating industry proposition by uniting leading online and physical operations, and would have yielded substantial worth for all stakeholders.”

Rank Chief Executive Henry Birch remarked: “We remain persuaded of the compelling value generation of this consolidation for all three sets of investors.”

“We and 888 are appreciative of the shareholder backing we have received throughout this course of action.”

William Hill also issued their own communication, recognizing the stance of 888 and Rank.

William Hill’s leader, Gareth Davis, stated, “We acknowledge the group’s confirmation that they are withdrawing their bid for William Hill.”

“Our priority remains maximizing returns for every shareholder.”

“The company has experienced a positive start to the latter half of the year, and the Board anticipates 2016 operating profits to reach the upper limits of the projected £260 million to £280 million range.”
